Coptic Pope meets ex-Fatah leader Dahlan

An Egyptian newspaper has reported that Coptic Pope Tawadros met with former Palestinian leader Mohamad Dahlan in Cairo on Thursday. Elshaab suggested that the meeting may be a prelude to civil strife in Egypt orchestrated by Dahlan. The ex-Fatah man is known for his sponsorship of a number of violent operations in Sinai and his animosity toward Islamists.

The newspaper claimed that Pope Tawadros and Dahlan collaborated on a number of violent activities during Mohamed Morsi’s rule, including the formation of the infamous “Black Bloc”. This youth group adopted violence openly as a means to destabilise Egyptian politics and society under Morsi.
