German Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle, has stressed the need to completely lift the four year Israeli imposed siege on the Gaza Strip.

At a news conference after a tour of a water treatment project financed by the German government, Mr Westerwelle asserted that the embargo weakened moderate forces while strengthening extremists and must therefore be brought to an end. He also stated that his humanitarian visit was a confirmation that Germany would not forget the plight of the sector and its people and would work diligently toward generating international support.
