Gaza Mental Health Programme receives Swedish-Norwegian delegation

February 27, 2014 at 12:00 pm

A joint Swedish-Norwegian delegation has visited the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) to see the effects of the latest political developments and living conditions for Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. The delegation included representatives of the Swedish Association for Solidarity with Palestine, the Swedish Organization for International Development and Cooperation, and the Norwegian Association for the Disabled.

Dr. Eyad Sarraj, President of the GCMHP, Dr. Ahmed Abu Toahina, the programme’s General Manager and Mr. Marwan Diab, the Head of the Public Relations team welcomed the delegates. Dr. Sarraj explained how the blockade and last year’s invasion is having a serious effect on the physical and psychological conditions of the population. Details of the services provided by the GCMHP were explained by Dr. Abu Toahina, including the early intervention programmes designed to solve behavioural problems, especially among young children.

Before leaving the territory, the delegation toured the border areas and visited some families directly affected by the politically-motivated siege of Gaza.
