Egypt university students continue massive anti-coup protests

Egyptian university students continued their daily protests against Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi’s presidency bid, as well as the violent crackdown on university students across the country since the start of the academic year.

Student protests have been held at Cairo University, Al-Azhar University, Ain Shams University, Zagazig University, Al-Minya University, and Suez Canal University.

The “Students against the Coup” movement at Suez Canal University said in a statement Wednesday that 23 Suez Canal University students have been detained since the dispersal of the Rabaa protest camp last August 14, and that 5 students have been killed by police since the July 3 coup.

The student protests demanded the release of detained students and bringing the killers of students to justice. They also called for overturning the decision to dispel a number of students.

In Al-Azhar University, security forces fired tear gas and birdshots at a student march held by anti-coup students, and arrested 10 students.
