Senior Muslim Brotherhood leader Ibrahim Munir has denied holding talks between his group and the leadership of the military coup.
Munir said that any news about talks between the Brotherhood and coup leaders is nothing more than a “rumour” aimed at undermining people’s credibility in the “legal” Islamist movement.
Speaking to Al-Jazeera, Munir said that his group “does not have the right to give up legitimacy.” He said the legitimacy of the president was recognised by the people and only the people themselves are able to cancel this legitimacy.
He said that spreading news about talks and reaching a solution stops people from taking part in anti-coup activities.
