Egyptian journalist Nadia Abou El-Magd said in an interview with Al-Jazeera Saturday that presidential hopeful and former minister of defence Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi introduces himself as a religious figure while criticizing political Islam for its religious discourse.
Abou El-Magd said al-Sisi appears as a contradictory character. “On the one hand, Sisi wages war on Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood. On the other, he employs religious speech as a weapon to win the sympathy of the masses.”
