Egypt increases health insurance fees for school children

June 4, 2014 at 11:09 am

Anger and discontent prevailed amongst parents after the Ministry of Health announced that students will not be enrolled in schools until they pay 55 Egyptian pounds ($8) for health insurance cards that provide them subsidised health services. Previously the card was issued to students free of charge.

Following the decision thousands of schools across Egypt referred parents to the Ministry of Health’s clinics and hospitals so that they could obtain health insurance cards in time for school enrolment.

School fees have not been affected by the decision.
