Tehran yesterday announced that the Islamic Republic has launched a new satellite into space.
Iranian state television reported that the new satellite, named Fajr, has been successfully launched into space and placed into orbit.

Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan said the satellite has been designed and built exclusively by Iranian technology in a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Defence and the Aviation and Space Authority.
The Iranian authorities have not provided further information regarding the satellite and the nature of the mission it will carry out.
Iran previously launched three locally-manufactured satellites – the first in 2009, the second in 2011 and the third in 2012.
