ISIS: Israeli spy captured in Syria

February 13, 2015 at 1:24 pm

The Islamic State claimed yesterday that it had captured an Israeli Arab from East Jerusalem who had been recruited to work for Mossad, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In the latest issue of the Islamic State’s English-language magazine Dabiq, the organisation published an interview with Mohammed Saeed Ismail Musallam, 19, from East Jerusalem about his alleged mission.

Mussallam, who was labelled an “apostate” in the interview, said: “We had a Jewish neighbour who works in the police, he came to me one day and asked me to work for the intelligence, I told him I would think about it, then I asked my father and my brother for their opinion, they encouraged me to do this work and they told me that it was good work and that it generates money.”

The teen claimed that after deciding to get the job he “met someone named Eli who was an agent of the intelligence agency and is responsible for the checkpoints in the West Bank. He came to our house and met my father, who was in turn advising me about the job in front of him.”

According to the interview, Mussallam met with another Mossad officer later who informed him about the details of his mission which included travelling to Syria to collect intelligence about the terrorist group’s weapons and missiles warehouses, their bases and names of any Palestinians who immigrated to the Islamic state.

The young man said the security agency paid him at least 5,000 ($1,300) per mission, adding that he was paid more for more sensitive information.

The young man claimed that not long after he arrived in Syria and began working, Mossad trained him not to say that he was an immigrant, however he had failed to implement some of the commands given.

“The mujahideen began to doubt me and fear settled in as I thought that I will be punished. I noticed that I was being observed so I called my father and told him what happened and he asked me to go back but it was too late because I am under surveillance! The mujahideen then put me in prison and moved me from one prison to another during the investigation; I admitted later that I was a Mossad spy and that they sent me to do a job.”

The magazine did not reveal Mussallam’s fate, but the group often execute those accused of spying for foreign bodies.
