Islamic State militants executed 300 policemen and a former army officer in Mosul over the past few days, the Anadolu Agency reported Iraqi Vice President Osama Al-Nujaifi saying yesterday.
“The government has been working hard to build military teams and equip them with the necessary apparatus,” Al- Nujaifi told reporters in Baghdad on the sidelines of a meeting with tribal leaders.
“We are building the army, mobilizing popular support and coordinating with Kurdistan and the international coalition because these are the parties that will join us in the battle” he added.
Iraqi forces and militiamen loyal to them as well as Peshmerga forces have been fighting to retake areas controlled by ISIS with aerial support from an US-led international coalition.
