Saudi Ambassador to Egypt: Egypt is suffering from a media breakdown

Saudi’s objection has reached its highest level regarding the repetitive insults of the kingdom and its figures in Egyptian media, the ambassador to Egypt said in a televised interview.

Saudi Ambassador to Egypt Ahmad Qattan added that the embassy has informed the Egyptian presidency that there is widespread anger in the kingdom.

He noted that the embassy is facing two options, either dialogue or judicial action, but he believes that “the judicial path will take too long”.

Qattan added that the matter “has become an area of concern” for Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi. “We must admit that since the January Revolution, there has been a media breakdown in Egypt, and Egypt continues to suffer from it today.”

The ambassador said that the embassy is aware that there have been some abuses, but is also aware that there are senior parties that are capable of influencing the heads of these television stations to change their discourse.

He added that the embassy is able to restore matters to the way they were with Egypt by means of dialogue and discussions, “we will not give up on this”.

“There are a few journalists we cannot deal with or hold discussions with whatsoever. They are the ones who have insulted the kingdom and its leaders in a manner that does not allow for us to deal with them,” said Qattan.

Egyptian media networks have been harsh critics of Saudi’s Operation Decisive Storm against the Houthis in Yemen.
