The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, said yesterday that Yemen constitutes the latest achievement of the Islamic revolution outside of Iranian, saying that Yemenis’ steadfastness against “hegemonic powers” is due to the influence of the Iranian Islamic Revolution’s model that triumphed more than three decades ago.
The Iranian official news agency (IRNA) quoted Jafari as saying that the revolution that began in Iran has inspired many countries in the region, and today “all are moving toward building a great Islamic civilisation.”
Jafari also noted that the “enemies of the Islamic revolution” in the region and beyond are focusing on suppressing what he described as a revolutionary dynamics in Yemen. He said these efforts will not succeed.
“Military and security threats to Iran will not reach their goal,” he said, stressing on the need for continued work to develop Tehran’s military achievements so as to counter any potential threat.
The head of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, said the situation in the region is complex and highly sensitive, which requires caution.
In a speech at Amir Kabir University in Tehran, Rafsanjani said: “Arrogant states are working to stir up strife in the region.” He explained that the existence of a strong state like Iran does not serve the United States’ interests. He also accused the US of leading a project to divide the region into small countries.
Rafsanjani explained that instability in Syria, Iraq and Yemen serves US interests. He said Iran could play an influential role in contributing to the achievements of regional security and stability.
