The evacuation of Ethiopian nationals from Libya was not carried out by Egyptian forces as was announced by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, but rather by Major General Khalifa Haftar’s forces with the help of other tribes, Arab and foreign media reported.
After the Egyptian president said that his country’s forces were able to evacuate Ethiopian nationals from Libya, other government sources said that there was no Egyptian military action or that there was only limited intervention in Libya.
The sources said that Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan have agreed to communicate with Libya’s Major General Khalifa Haftar to implement a plan for the evacuation of Ethiopian nationals to Khartoum and Cairo, and the dismissed leader of the Palestinian Fatah movement, Mohammed Dahlan, participated in the agreement.
According to these sources, the role of the Egyptian and Sudanese intelligence services was limited to locating the Ethiopian nationals, and that the evacuation plan was implemented by Haftar’s forces with the help of local tribes. The military and the General Intelligence oversaw the plan.
Egyptian TV announced that Al-Sisi received 27 Ethiopians who were kidnapped in Libya. Ethiopia has not commented on the matter.
