Turkey steps up military reinforcements on Syrian border

The Turkish army has increased its military presence on the Syrian border, on Wednesday continuing the deployment of military reinforcements to the state of Keles bordering Syria.

Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported that a military convoy including tanks, armoured personnel vehicles and military personnel arrived in the state of Keles coming from the Kahramanmaras area in the south of the country.

The agency said that military reinforcements came from the fifth regiment armadillos from Kahramanmara to Kells amid security measures taken along the convoy’s route, adding that the armoured vehicles were deployed on the border line.

The military convoy included 15 tanks and 15 armoured vehicles to transport soldiers, as well as three buses carrying soldiers.

Turkey raised its security measures along border areas with Syria following attacks by Islamic State (ISIS) militants on the city of Izaz, near Aleppo, and continuing clashes in the vicinity of the border areas.

Earlier in the day, Turkish armed forces deployed tanks, armoured combat vehicles and air-defence systems, as well as soldiers along the border points in Keles.
