Israeli politicians: Iran nuclear deal colossal failure of Netanyahu's policies

July 14, 2015 at 11:38 am

Senior Israeli politicians said yesterday that a nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers would be a “colossal failure” of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies.

Zionist Union leader Isaac Herzog said Netanyahu “failed” in allowing the Iranian deal to go through by not doing “everything possible” to stop it.

According to Herzog, instead of fighting with the American, Netanyahu should have worked to at least receive a military assistance package as “compensation” for the deal.

“If you go to a deal, as bad as it may be, the way to minimize its damage is by arriving at an agreement with the US on a very significant security package, like the ones negotiated by Sunni Gulf states which are US allies” he told Army Radio, adding that “Israel is avoiding doing this and is not negotiating with the US.”

“The deal will make Iran a nuclear state, and will lead to an arms race in the region,” he claimed, adding that “the decisive hour has arrived, so you must do everything possible to change the details of the agreement and maintain the interests of the State of Israel.”

Yesh Atid Chairman Former Finance Minister Yair Lapid said in a statement yesterday that “the deal demonstrates the failure of Netanyahu’s policies.”

“The agreement puts the security of the State of Israel and the world at risk, it should be made clear to the United States that the agreement does not bind Israel, which reserves the right to keep the military option on the table along with other options,” he added.
