Qatar has rejected media reports claiming a man suspected of killing five US soldiers in Tennessee last week has links to the Gulf State.

“We are aware of reports linking the suspect of the recent tragedy in Tennessee to Qatar,” the Government Communications Office said in a statement. “The man identified as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez transited through Hamad International Airport from Amman, Jordan, to the US in November 2014,” the office said.

“At no time did Mr Abdulazeez enter Qatar. Statements suggesting he entered the country are false,” it added.

The statement stressed that “the State of Qatar condemns these criminal acts that are contrary to humanitarian values, ethics, principles and religions.”

As many as five US soldiers were killed when a man sprayed gunfire against at a military recruiting centre in Chattanooga before he drove to a nearby Naval Reserve Centre where he shot and killed four Marines.

The shooter was killed on spot.
