Israel relocates military assembly sites away from Gaza Strip for fear of being targeted

The Israeli army is preparing to move the sites allocated for the assembly of its forces prior to launching attacks against the Gaza Strip further away from the border areas in an effort to avoid them being targeted by Palestinian mortar shells, Arabs 48 reported.

A senior officer in the Israeli Home Front Command said that this action comes as a result of lessons learnt from last year’s Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. He stressed that these sites “will be moved further away to more remote areas” in the south of the country.

The media quoted a senior officer in the IDF’s southern front command as saying that the army has recently set up radar capabilities in order to streamline the warning mechanisms given to Israeli citizens prior to the launching of missiles from Gaza border towns.

According to the officer, the “breakthrough technology investigation” that has recently been accomplished would resolve such situations in which shells fell during the recent Gaza war without prior warning of the Israeli population, resulting in casualties.

“Hamas realised it could attack Israeli towns by launching a large amount of short-range missiles and this constitutes a challenge as regards to the notice duration prior to discovering the attacks, which also shapes our reaction to it,” he said.

“This device ,which relies on radar to monitor the launch of short-range missiles, will help in monitoring the launch of missiles which have been escaping from us so far. In the recent period, we have set up and deployed devices in Gaza border towns and tested them using live fire, and they will soon become functioning and will provide more protection for all the border area,” he added.
