Sudan’s Al-Turabi calls on opposition parties to participate in national dialogue

Hassan Al-Turabi, secretary general of the Popular Congress Party, has called on all opposition parties to take part in the national dialogue under the patronage of Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, QudsPress reported yesterday.

Speaking to QudsPress, sources said: “Al-Turabi believes that the dialogue needs all political parties of different views to take part and contribute to the success of this dialogue.”

Al-Turabi called for all the Sudanese to have the spirit of “fraternity and tolerance” in order to lead the country to be “united and safe”.

On Sunday, President Al-Bashir reiterated that this year is dedicated to peace. “We preferred the national dialogue over many other issues,” he said. “We want our armed forces to be prepared for their constitutional duty. This is our message to all parties.”

Al-Bashir launched the dialogue last year, but it was suspended in April due to difference over the date of the parliamentary and presidential elections. The dialogue has recently resumed, but a number of opposition and armed groups still refuse it.
