Former Iranian FM: ‘No military solution in Syria, Yemen’

Tensions in the region especially in Syria and Yemen “cannot be solved militarily, but must be addressed by political means,” former Iranian foreign minister and the current head of the Centre for Strategic Research, Ali Akbar Velayati, said yesterday.

Iran’s official news agency IRNA quoted Velayati as saying: “The territorial integrity of countries in the region and the UN member states must be respected to confront any attempt to stir up division in these countries.”

Speaking during a meeting with the head of Germany’s Friedrich Foundation, Velayati stressed on the good relations enjoyed between by the two countries, saying: “the Iranian people have a good impression of the German people and the German people also have a good impression towards Iran.”

“We are seeing encouraging future prospects in the relations between Iran and Germany because Germany will not find a better and more worthy ally than Iran in the region,” Velayati said, adding, “past experience confirms that Iran cares about its relations with Germany”.
