The Israeli army has wounded a member of Gaza’s border guards near its border with the Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Anadolu Agency that the Israeli army yesterday opened fire at a car carrying border guards along the border, injuring one person.

A spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a statement that a 23-year-old man has been shot in the hand, east of Khan Yunis, and was transferred to the European Gaza Hospital for treatment.

Al-Qudra did not provide further details about the circumstances of the shooting.

Meanwhile, Israeli army radio quoted unnamed Israeli military sources as saying: “The Israeli army force responded to shooting coming from the Gaza Strip by firing at a group of gunmen who approached the fence.”

None of the Israeli force members were hurt.

Gaza’s interior ministry said the force is tasked with monitoring the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel.
