Seventy-five Syrian fighters trained by American, British and Turkish armies entered Syria on Friday, a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
SOHR’s Director Rami Abdurrahman said that the fighters, who were supplied with 12 4×4 vehicles mounted with automatic gun machines, entered Syria from Bab Al-Salama Crossing with Turkey.
According to Al Jazeera, Abdurrahman said the fighters were deployed to support two other US-backed units.
On Wednesday, General Austin Lloyd told US lawmakers that four or five US-trained rebels were fighting in Syria. On Friday his spokesman Colonel Patrick Ryder told reporters that four more had re-entered Syria since Austin spoke, Al Jazeera added.
Arabi21 said that the US army has started a programme to train around 5,400 fighters a year as part of US President Barack Obama’s strategy to face Daesh with local partners and distance US forces from the face-to-face confrontation.
