Israel closes Gaza crossings for one week

September 22, 2015 at 10:26 am

Israeli occupation authorities closed the crossings with the Gaza Strip for one week starting today, local media reported.

A statement issued by the Chief of Crossings and Borders Nazmi Mohana said: “Israel is to close Kerem Shalom Crossing between September 22 and September 29 because of the Israeli holidays at the end of the year.”

He noted that this crossing would be opened exceptionally for fuel only on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Israeli authorities opened Kerem Shalom Crossing yesterday, after it was closed for a week during the Jewish holidays, and allowed the entrance of 970 truckloads of aid and other materials for the commercial and agricultural sectors. They also allowed the entrance of fuel.

Kerem Shalom is the only commercial crossing with the Gaza Strip and it has been partially opened since the end of last year’s Israeli offensive on Gaza.

Before the offensive, it had been completely closed for eight years and little aid was allowed to enter the Strip.
