Brazilian president: Israeli settlement expansion ‘unbearable’

Israeli settlements in the West Bank can no longer be tolerated, the President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff said yesterday.

The establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel cannot be postponed, Rousseff told the UN General Assembly.

She added that Brazil is willing to host refugees as it has always done.

“Brazil is a welcoming country. A country which was ultimately made up by refugees. We have received Syrians, Haitians, men and women from all over the world,” said Rousseff.

“We remain open, we have our arms open to welcome refugees. We, for more than a century now, have provided shelter to millions of Europeans, Arabs and Asian citizens.”
