Egypt denies Sisi called for expansion of peace deal with Israel

The media’s translation of a statement made by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi was not accurate regarding the Middle East peace process, the presidential spokesperson said yesterday.

“When the Egyptian president spoke about a complete peace in the region and its potential positive implications on all nations as well as the relations between Arab countries and Israel, he stressed that this cannot happen except after a solution to the Palestinian issue and a declaration of a Palestinian state according to the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Alaa Youssef said in a statement.

Media sources reported that the Egyptian president had made a statement to the Associated Press in which he called for the expansion of the peace treaty, which Egypt signed with Israel 40 years ago, to include other Arab countries.
