The head of the Supreme Islamic Commission, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, on Tuesday accused the Palestinian Authority (PA) of “falling far short that expected” regarding Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Quds Press reported.
Sabri said that the PA “has restricted itself” to the Oslo agreement, and therefore that it has not taken a proactive enough role in protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“The existence of worshipers and continuous confrontations and clashes with the Israeli occupation forces indicate that the Israeli occupation us unable to carry out its partition plan,” Sabri argued.
He described the crowds of Israeli settlers who burst into Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday as part of an Israel plan to temporally and spatially partition Al-Aqsa Mosque. “That was a pre-planned measure,” he said, “the Israeli government said that Sunday was for Muslims and Monday for Jews.”
The Sheikh stressed that this was completely “unacceptable” and was the reason why Muslim worshipers remained inside Al-Aqsa Mosque from the previous day.
Sabri also criticised Arab and Islamic countries for not doing anything to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque from the ongoing violations, stating that that “the Israeli occupation did not pay attention to their condemnations.”
