Egypt warns of continued escalation in Jerusalem

The Egyptian foreign ministry warned on Sunday of the dangers of the continued escalation of the situation in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank, a statement posted on the ministry’s official Facebook page said.

The statement, which was reported by Masralarabia.com, said: “the continuation of the Israeli occupation authorities’ escalation and aggression against the Palestinians ushers in an explosion of the situation [that may lead to] losing control.”

In addition, the statement said, the policy of collective punishment, the burning of homes, and the imposition of measures to restrict the movement of Palestinians and their right to practice their religion in Al-Aqsa Mosque could undermine efforts to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

This might drag both the Palestinians and the Israelis to a new circle of violence which would be of “insecure consequences”, the statement concluded.
