Iran tests new generation long-range ballistic missile

Iran has successfully tested a new precision guided long-range missile, state media reported on Sunday.

“The Emad [Pillar] surface-to-surface missile is the country’s first long-range missile that can be precision-guided until it reaches its target,” announced Iran’s Defence Minister. According to Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, it is the ministry’s strategy to develop the missile capabilities of the armed forces and enhance the Islamic Republic’s potential for effective deterrents.

“The missile is designed and manufactured by Iranian Defence Ministry scientists and experts,” he added. “To follow our defence programmes, we don’t ask permission from anyone.”

The new rocket is “capable of scrutinising targets and destroying them completely,” the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
