Jordanian Islamists call on government to save Al-Aqsa Mosque

October 12, 2015 at 8:46 am

The political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan has called on the government in Amman to respond to Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem and use political pressure to support Al-Aqsa Mosque. In a statement on Sunday, the Islamic Action Front called for a review of the Wadi Araba Peace Treaty with Israel.

Adding that there should be a halt in security coordination with the Israelis, the movement insisted that Jordan should also withdraw from all economic, cultural and agricultural agreements signed with Tel Aviv. With regards to the domestic reaction to events in the occupied Palestinian territories, the Front condemned the “political” arrests of Jordanian activists who participate in Al-Aqsa solidarity events.

There was also condemnation of what it described as the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to “thwart the resistance” of the Palestinian people. “Resistance is the only way to recover the Palestinians’ legitimate rights after all peace efforts with Israel have failed,” the statement concluded.
