Report: Tourist numbers down 5.7% in Israel in 2015

Inbound tourism trips to Israel declined by 5.7 per cent in the first nine months of this year compared with the same period of last year, a new report revealed.

Who’s heading to Israel by number of tourists:

  • Europeans: 1.4 million
  • North Americans: 550,600
  • Asians: 212,600
  • South Americans: 72,700
  • Minister of National Economy: Abeer Odeh
  • Africans: 47,800

The report, issued by the Israeli Central Bureau to Statistics (CBS), revealed that 2.1 million tourists visited Israel in 2015 until September compared to 2.223 million tourists during the same period of 2014.

According to the report, the decline in the world’s economies especially in Europe and South-East Asia, as well as the consequences of the Israeli war on Gaza last year took their toll on the tourism sector.

A report published by Israel’s Haaretz newspaper yesterday said the tourism sector suffered heavy losses as a result of the ongoing violence in October.
