Two soldiers killed in eastern Turkey

October 18, 2015 at 1:39 pm

Two soldiers were killed and two others were wounded Sunday in an attack by the PKK on an armoured police vehicle in the eastern Turkish province of Tunceli, according to security officials.

Security sources said that the incident took place on the Tunceli-Pulumur highway as a mine-resistant armoured vehicle belonging to Turkish soldiers was crossing.

After the attack, the four soldiers were transferred to Tunceli State Hospital but two of them died at the hospital.

The PKK – designated a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the US and EU – renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state this summer.

Since July, more than 150 members of security forces have been martyred while, according to the government, more than 2,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
