A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards general was killed in Syria where Iranian forces have been fighting alongside Syrian regime President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, Iranian media reported.
Iran’s Mashriq news agency said General Moslem Khizab was killed in Syria while on an advisory mission.
The Syrian regime’s main allies in the region, Iran and the Lebanon’s Hezbollah, recently helped the regime’s army to regain control of areas held by rebel and opposition groups near the provinces of Hama and Idlib with aerial support from Russian forces.
Observers believe that the Russian intervention in Syria came after Iran and Hezbollah exhausted their resources in the country.
According to reports, Hezbollah has incurred the loss of 196 fighters since battles near Zabadani began in May until mid-September.
