Abbas: Palestinians experience ‘unbearable’ circumstances under occupation

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has said that the Palestinian people have been living under “unbearable” circumstances as a result of the Israeli occupation, QudsNet reported on Tuesday.

In a joint press conference held with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė in Ramallah, Abbas said: “The escalation of the occupation and its aggressive settlers, as well as the stubbornness of the Israeli government and absence of political horizon, has brought our youth to a state of hopelessness and depression.”

Abbas said that Palestine is a growing state, but it is “rich” with many sources such as religious, spiritual and tourism sites, including Church of Nativity, Al-Aqsa Mosque and other historical places.

He said that he and Grybauskaitė discussed the developments of the ongoing situation in Palestine. He told her about the increasing violence, terrorism and extremism in the region.

Abbas also stressed the importance of working towards a political solution through dialogue and mobilising all efforts to face terrorism.

He hailed Grybauskaitė’s visit and welcomed her in Palestine, recalling his visit to her country.
