Israeli army to investigate soldier response to Beer Sheeba attack

The Israeli army is to investigate the conduct of Israeli soldiers who were seen fleeing the scene of the attack on a bus station in Beer Sheeba, Israeli army spokesman Moti Almuz said on Tuesday.

According to Arab48.com, the Israeli military police is also to investigate the lynching of an Eritrean asylum seeker by members of the military in connection to the attack.

A border guard officer and a guard at the Beer Sheeba bus station shot the Eritrean, thinking he was responsible for the attack. Subsequently, a number of Israeli soldiers were seen in a video lynching and beating the man.

Almuz said that an investigation against the suspects in this case would be opened in case there were breaches of military conduct.

The Israeli police said on Monday that it would arrest a number of suspects accused of lynching the Eritrean, noting that the investigation is predominately based on the testimony six witnesses – two of which are security officers.

In a video that went viral on social media, it was very clear that the Eritrean did not pose any danger after he was shot, started bleeding and became unable to move.
