Netanyahu to revoke residency of Palestinians in East Jerusalem side of Separation Wall

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to revoke the identity cards of Palestinian Jerusalemites who were separated from the occupied city of Jerusalem by the illegal Israeli Separation Wall, Israeli media revealed yesterday.

Two weeks ago, Netanyahu proposed his plan to the reduced Israeli Ministerial Council. The plan targets approximately 80,000 Palestinians in the refugee camps such as Shuafat, Kafr Aqab and Anata.

Arab48.com reported Israeli TV Channel 2 saying that Netanyahu called for a special cabinet meeting to discuss the issue.

Israel’s YnetNews website reported Netanyahu saying: “There is no enforcement there, no law. We need to examine the possibility of cancelling their residency.”

Channel 2 reported him saying: “It is impossible for the situation to remain the same behind the barrier.”

Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s office said: “The Palestinians in the Arab neighbourhoods behind the barrier exploit the merits of Israeli residency status, but they do not carry out the duties needed from them [based on this residency].”
