The international community has been holding talks to resolve the Syrian conflict based on the Geneva I agreement, but there will be no future role for Syrian regime President Bashar Al-Assad in the country, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said yesterday.
“There are ongoing international consultations on implementing the Geneva I proposal,” Jubeir told reporters at a news conference with Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Cairo, Egypt.
“I think there has been some progress so far and positions are coming closer…but I can’t say we’ve reached an agreement and there needs to be more consultations,” he said.
“We are committed to implementing the principles of Geneva to establish a transitional authority that installs a constitution and directs the government and military ahead of elections.”
