The president of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the second largest political group in the European Parliament, has called on the democratic choice of the Turkish people to be respected, following the legislative election last week.
“The Turkish people have made their choice and we must respect it,” said Gianni Pittella. “However, we call on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to use his majority prudently and democratically for the good of the country.” Pittella’s comments were reported by Italy’s ANSA news agency.
The alliance is represented in the European Parliament by 190 out of the total of 751 seats.
