Russia and Iran send 40,000 fighters to Syria

Abdul Khaliq Abdullah, a political science professor at UAE University and a political adviser to Abu-Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, has said that Russia and Iran are transferring 40,000 fighters from Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran to Syria to fight alongside regime forces of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

“Russia and Iran are transporting more than 40,000 fighters from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan to Syria,” Abdullah said on Twitter.

“If they deployed all the militias in the world, they will not be able to save Bashar.”

Russia has been playing the role of Al-Assad’s saviour after Syrian opposition groups took a majority of parts in Syria.

Russian warplanes have been waging intensive raids against opposition sites and civilian areas under opposition control.
