Sources in the Swiss secretariat of migration said on Friday that the government has started negotiations with Turkey over an agreement to return illegal immigrants to the country that they had left before entering Europe, Anadolu has reported.
The sources said that Switzerland, which is not an EU member state, cannot be part of the talks between Turkey and the EU in this regard. As such, the Turkish and Swiss officials have to conduct separate talks.
Turkey and the EU reached an agreement on this issue during the summit held in Brussels at the end of October. They adopted a number of decisions regarding Turkey joining the EU and accepting the return of illegal immigrants who headed for Europe from Turkey.
