Saudi condemns Houthi ceasefire breach

Saudi Arabia yesterday condemned Yemen’s Houthi rebels’ violation of the ceasefire saying these acts do not serve the efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Yemeni conflict.

The remarks were made during a the Saudi cabinet meeting headed by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz yesterday evening in Riyadh, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

The condemnation came hours after Saudi intercepted a missile it said was fired by Houthis towards the city of Jizan, south of the kingdom.

Over the past two days, Houthi rebels have increased the number of ballistic missiles launched at Saudi sites and the headquarters of forces loyal to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in Marib, east of Yemen, but the alliance defence system intercepted a majority of them.

UN brokered consultations between Yemeni rebels and the government ended on Sunday without a solution. The parties agreed to renew talks in mid-January.
