Russian air strikes kill 35 near Damascus

December 23, 2015 at 11:40 am

Russian air strikes killed 35 Syrians on Tuesday, including children. The strikes took place in Bazina Village to the east of the Syrian capital Damascus, Anadolu has reported.

Civil defence sources affiliated to Syrian opposition groups told Anadolu that the Russian aircraft targeted the village market, causing dozens of casualties who were evacuated to field hospitals in the area. The Syrian regime and Russian air forces have targeted local markets repeatedly in recent weeks, with many deaths and injuries on each occasion.

Reports from Russia claim that the air strikes have been targeting Daesh in Syria, which is disputed by the facts on the ground. Most of the targets struck by the Russians, it is reported, have belonged either to moderate Syrian opposition groups or civilians in areas where no Daesh activity has been noted.
