Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator: Nuclear agreement comes in to force in January

The head of the Iranian nuclear negotiating team, deputy foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said the nuclear agreement signed between his country and the major world powers earlier in the summer will be implemented in the second half of January.

Araghchi told reporters on Sunday that the overall joint action program “will be carried out until the end of the current Iranian month which ends on January, 20”, Iran’s Fars news agency reported.

The Iranian official also said that he believes that economic sanctions against Tehran could be lifted within the next three weeks, following the decision made by the IAEA.

Earlier on Tuesday last week the UN nuclear watchdog’s 35-nation board in Vienna closed its investigation into whether Iran sought atomic weapons, opting to back the global deal with Tehran rather than dwell on Iran’s past activities, diplomats said.
