Turkey summons Iranian ambassador

The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador to Ankara in protest of media outlets linking Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia to the recent executions in the kingdom.

In a statement issued late yesterday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it asked the Iranian ambassador to stop the media outlets from spreading stories linking Erdogan to the executions that took place last Saturday.

The ministry strongly condemned the Iranian media and condemned the direct accusations made against the Turkish president in this regard. It also demanded an end to such news stories that “aim to create convictions in the mind of the neighbouring Iranian people against the Turkish president.”

The statement noted that the ministry stressed the importance of not harming foreign diplomatic envoys and holding hosting countries responsible for the security of these envoys. The statement also stressed that the “attacks that affected the Saudi embassy and consulate in Tehran and the city of Mashhad is unacceptable and unjustifiable.”
