OIC to hold a summit on Palestine in Indonesia

The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed Indonesia’s decision to host an extraordinary summit to discussing the developments in the Palestinian issue in its capital, Jakarta, on 6-7 March.

According to a press release issued by the OIC yesterday, the Jakarta summit will be devoted to the Palestinian issue in light of the Israeli policies which include oppressing the Palestinian people, changing Jerusalem’s demographic and attacking Al-Aqsa Mosque.

OIC Secretary-General Iyad Bin Amin Madani held extensive talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki to discuss the preparations and arrangements for the upcoming summit on the issue of Palestine and Jerusalem. They agreed to form preparatory committees to complete the conference’s work.

The summit comes upon the request of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas with the aim of protecting the Palestinian identity and social fabric, preserving Islamic and Christian holy sites and resuming the peace process.
