Iran warns Saudi Arabia of ground operation in Syria

Following Saudi Arabia’s deployment of fighter jets to Turkey, Iran warned the country on Sunday of the consequences of sending ground troops to Syria, Iranian news channel Al-Alam reported.

Huffington Post, which reported the news, quoted Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Colonel Masoud Jazaeri as saying: “We will never allow the situation in Syria to continue as Saudi wants it to carry out its policies and we will tackle the necessary steps at the appropriate time.”

Jazaeri was answering a question regarding whether Iran will send more military advisers if Saudi Arabia sends ground forces to Syria. The broadcaster also asked the Iranian official about the possibility and dangers of Saudi-Iranian confrontation.

Saudi Arabia has sent a number of fighter jets to a Turkish military base with the aim of intensifying its operations against Daesh in Syria.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia said it is prepared to deploy ground troops to Syria to fight Daesh if the US-led coalition leaders agree to the offer.
