Three Iranians killed near Saudi-Yemeni border

Three Iranians were killed on Monday following a Houthi attack in southern Saudi Arabia.

The three were killed when Saudi forces destroyed seven Houthi vehicles during an attack on the southern Asir region near the Yemeni border, the state-run Al Ekhbariya television said. No further details were given.

Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of supplying Yemen’s Shia Houthi rebels with weapons, money and militants. The group seized control of the Yemeni capital of Sanaa in late 2014.

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies began an extensive air campaign aimed at reversing Houthi gains in Yemen and restoring the government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.

Hadi accused Iran of interfering in his country’s affairs during a meeting on Monday in Riyadh with representatives of the permanent UN Security Council members. Hadi said that Iran’s meddling in his country was not new, but has been documented after weapons were seized on board ships.

“We are advocates of peace and responsible for all the Yemeni people, but we are unfortunately faced with a complex mentality that wants to destroy the country, in order to return to power, and supports terrorist groups to shuffle the cards and besieges the city of Taiz without the slightest humane or ethical responsibilities,” he said.
