Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said on Sunday that the fight against terrorism in Libya should be carried out “within the framework of international legitimacy and with respect for the sovereignty of this state”.
The comments were made in a statement released following talks with the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon in Algiers.
Shannon arrived in the country on Sunday to begin a two-day visit to discuss bilateral cooperation, particularly with regard to combating terrorism, according to an earlier statement issued by the US State Department.
The Algerian Foreign Minister noted that Washington and Algiers both support “a peaceful and political solution to the Libyan crisis”, stressing “the importance to uphold political solutions to all crises and conflicts hitting our region”.
