Yemeni government accuses Hezbollah of supporting Houthis

Yemen’s government accused Hezbollah on Wednesday of training Houthi forces, fighting alongside them and planning attacks in Saudi Arabia, Anadolu news agency reported.

Its latest assertion, in a statement carried by official news agency Saba, is based on “many documents and physical evidence” found in military positions abandoned by the Houthis, which it said Hezbollah would not be able to deny.

A video recording that Saudi officials gave to mass media purported to show a Hezbollah operative with the nickname “Abu Saleh al-Libnani (Lebanese)” sitting in a tent discussing tactics with Houthi fighters last summer.

Spokesman of the Yemeni Government Rajeh Badi said that Hezbollah support for the Houthis and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s forces takes several forms, noting that Hezbollah members are on the ground on the borders of Saudi Arabia.

In the statement, Badi described Hezbollah’s interference in the affairs of his country as “unjustified”.

He said his government is planning to hand over a full dossier regarding this issue to the UN Security Council and the Arab League.

Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab coalition against the Houthis and forces loyal to Saleh in a bid to restore the internationally recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
