US concerned over proposal to exile families of Palestinian attackers to Gaza

The US administration has expressed concerns regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to expel the families of Palestinian attackers to Gaza.

US Department of State Spokesman Mark Toner said on Wednesday that such a move would be “counterproductive” and will only “exacerbate tensions”.

In response to questions asked during a daily media briefing, he said that the US expects both sides to take positive measures and avoid moves that risk leading to escalation.

Netanyahu said on Wednesday that he had asked the attorney general to examine the possibility of carrying out such expulsions. Rights groups immediately denounced the plan.
