Iraqi MP challenges navigation treaty with Kuwait

March 7, 2016 at 11:22 am

Iraqi MP Alia Nassif has filed an appeal with the Iraqi Federal Court to review an agreement signed between Iraq and Kuwait to organize navigation between the two countries, ratified by the Iraqi parliament in 2013.

Nassif said during a press conference in the parliament building on Sunday that she had filed the lawsuit to challenge the parliament’s decision to ratify the agreement which regulates navigation in the Khawr Abd Allah waterway.

Khawr Abd Allah is located north of the Persian Gulf between the Kuwaiti islands of Bubiyan and Warbah and the Iraqi Faw peninsula and extends into the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr.

According to the MP, Kuwait has no right to this water section.
