US court orders Iran to pay $10.7bn for ‘involvement’ in 9/11 attacks

An American court has ordered Iran to pay a fine of $10.7 billion for its alleged “involvement” in the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington, Anadolu reported on Friday.

It is proposed that $7.5 billion should be paid in damages to the families of the victims of the attacks. The balance should be paid as compensation to insurance companies affected by claims made following 9/11.

US District Judge George Daniels issued his judgement in New York based on a complaint filed by American prosecutors after a claim by Iranian news agency Tasnim that Iran had been involved. The same judge, said Anadolu, completely acquitted Saudi Arabia and announced that it had no links to the atrocities. Fifteen of the 19 alleged hijackers involved in flying aircraft into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon held, it is said, Saudi citizenship.
